The effects of domestic and family violence often extend far beyond the offending itself. For many victim-survivors, the criminal justice process can feel daunting and may not always convey the full emotional, physical, financial, and social impact of the harm they have experienced. A Victim Impact Statement gives victims of crime an opportunity to have their voice heard by the court and to describe, in their own words, how the offending has affected their life.
In this Ask Nola session, a representative from Victim Assist Queensland will explain:
what a Victim Impact Statement is and when it may be used
when a statement can be provided to the court
what information can and cannot be included
how Victim Impact Statements are considered by the court
other rights and supports available to victims of crime
Whether you have been affected by crime, are supporting someone who has, or simply want to learn more about victims' rights, this session will provide practical information about Victim Impact Statements and the services available to support victims through the criminal justice process
